Description
The RAD-D-W has 12 times greater area and 12 times greater sensitivity than the popular 2'' x 2'' NaI(Tl) portable Gamma Spec units. This allows the detection of items that are not detectable or not resolvable by smaller devices.
SCENARIO
Shipping Container with an unlikely MANIFEST or suspicious origin:
Does it contain a shielded cache of Cesium, Uranium, Sr90 for a Dirty Bomb or Plutonium, or a suitcase Nuke?
- A Coast Guard cutter is cruising the harbor, and stops to look at a suspicious boat, but does not have time to board and search. The RAD-D-W saves time.
- In most cases, it can eliminate the need to conduct lengthy inspections and searches to find the presence of radioactivity.
- An inspector doing his/her job approaches a vehicle, a shipping container, a package, or a shed, which might contain radioactive material. Because of RAD-D-W's high sensitivity, an external scan is usually sufficient.
